Emeritus Professor Alan Robson was not just a highly respected academic and leader—he was a force of nature, whose influence left an indelible mark on UWA and beyond. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication, profound compassion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
“Professor Alan Robson was a remarkable teacher, a brilliant researcher, and a true friend to the farming community. He was an inspiring leader, a mentor who touched lives, a champion of international students, and an exceptional boss,” says Professor Kadambot Siddique, Hackett Professor of Agriculture Chair and Director.
Known for his boundless passion and visionary contributions, Professor Robson served as the Vice-Chancellor of UWA from 2004 to 2011, after previously holding the roles of Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost. Over his extraordinary 40-year career, he poured his heart and soul into advancing the university’s mission, always pushing to create a more inclusive, student-focused institution.
In his honour, UWA is proud to establish the Alan Robson Memorial Fund—a tribute to a leader whose heart was as big as his impact. With a goal of raising $300,000, this fund will support two pivotal initiatives. The first will endow a scholarship to help a regional or rural student pursue their dreams at UWA, reflecting Professor Robson's deep belief in the power of education to open doors for students from remote areas. The second will fund an annual lectureship series at the Institute of Agriculture, bringing global experts together to celebrate Professor Robson’s extraordinary contributions to agricultural research and sustainability, with a focus on Western Australia’s unique environment.
Professor Robson’s influence as a mentor and leader was profound, shaping the lives of countless students, colleagues, and the broader academic community. His dedication to uplifting others, nurturing potential, and fostering growth is a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
The Alan Robson Memorial Fund is a way for us to honour that legacy—to ensure that both students and academics are supported, recognised, and inspired by the values that Alan Robson lived by every single day.
We invite you to contribute to the Alan Robson Memorial Fund. Your donation will not only celebrate an extraordinary life but will also help keep Professor Robson's spirit of generosity, inspiration, and leadership alive for years to come.
