UWA pioneer leaves a gift that will keep giving
Jean Kahan was one of our University’s pioneers and her life example teaches us to pursue our dreams in spite of the obstacles we may face. Jean was a generous contributor throughout her lifetime and has left a lasting legacy.
Jean's gift has made it possible to enrich our collection of Western Australian and Australian art through the acquisition of contemporary artworks of significance, for which we are very grateful.

Her generous bequest to support UWA’s Cultural Precinct will have an ongoing and positive impact on teaching and research and her spirit will live on through the imagination and work of academics and students alike.
One of the first women in Western Australia to graduate with a Science degree Jean was charitable throughout her life, creating a scholarship in honour of her father, Raoul Kahan, the first Honours student to graduate from UWA’s Department of Chemistry. She also donated to the Rural Medical School as she highly valued the doctors who served the rural community.
The University is privileged to have known Jean and honoured to acknowledge and recognise her wonderful gifts.
