What you supported in 2017

You’re helping disadvantaged students
Your donations to equity scholarships and Fairway UWA, an alternate entry program, changed the lives of students who experience hardship and barriers to higher education.
Most Fairway UWA students are the first in their family to attend university.

Tilly Johnston, 19, Mt Barker
2nd year Chemistry and Geology student
UWA Alumni Fund scholarship recipient and Fairway ambassador
Fairway is more than a program, it’s a family. Instead of being alone at university I had somewhere to go to, somewhere I belonged. The financial support meant I could move to a UWA residential college, experience campus life and pursue my dream to become a geochemist.

Patrick Donovan, 19, Busselton
1st year Medical Sciences and Chemistry student
UWA Alumni Fund Inspire scholarship recipient
Making the move to Perth from Busselton would have been very difficult, especially because I come from a single-parent family. With the help of this scholarship, I’m able to live on campus at University Hall, make friends, access support in my studies and pursue the future I aspire to. Thank you Alumni Fund donors.
Enriching the student experience
Thanks to your support, Alumni Fund grant projects are enabling innovative and hands-on learning experiences at UWA.
This year, UWA alumni selected The UWA Institute of Agriculture’s project Old Farmhouse Learning Hub Upgrade as the People’s Choice Award. Seed funding will help transform the farm learning environment for current and future students in WA.

Swim for Refugees
Student for Refugees, UWA student group
2017 Alumni Fund grant recipient
Thanks to your support in 2017, our student-run volunteer program Swim for Refugees will offer more swimming lessons to refugees in our community. UWA students have the opportunity to build stronger community ties and help those who have just arrived in WA embrace life in their new homeland.

Old Farmhouse Learning Hub Upgrade
The UWA Institute of Agriculture, Faculty of Science
2017 People’s Choice Award grant recipient
Thanks to the UWA community, this project will improve the learning environment for students undertaking in-the-field work at the UWA Farm Ridgefield, home of the Future Farm 2050, in Pingelly WA. This will complement the current renovation of the Old Farmhouse, which students use for class lectures, project work and overnight accommodation.
