The Alumni Fund – making dreams a reality
In 2014, WASTV UWA (WASTV) received an Alumni Fund Grant to purchase much needed equipment to help non-profits and student groups garner community support for their causes.
The Alumni Fund provides more than financial support; it offers students valuable links to university expertise and resources. Through the Fund, we’ve been able to connect with university staff and receive valuable advice.

Michael Taran, 2010 Beazley medallist, Fogarty Scholar and Medicine and Medical Science honours student heads the team of WASTV volunteers and is grateful for the support of UWA’s alumni and friends.
“The grant really allowed us to provide a filming service to UWA clubs and societies – from filming to production and editing – a one-stop shop that will help them promote their messages,” says Michael.
WASTV UWA is also committed to helping others develop their skills. Using the equipment purchased with the grant, the group successfully launched CAM JAM – a series of practical workshops to develop students’ film skills including cinematography, lighting and video effects.
Since starting, WASTV UWA has run the successful O-Day StuntComp for clubs – inviting clubs to perform stunts showcasing their talents to a global audience. With the support of the Alumni Fund, WASTV has attracted more clubs to join in on this great initiative.
The Alumni Fund Grants is one of the key programs supported by the Alumni Fund, thanks to the generosity of our friends and supporters. The program provides grants of up to $30,000 for innovative projects and activities that enhance the student experience.
