Education will eliminate global poverty

A $65 million donation made by Andrew and Nicola Forrest to UWA is the single largest philanthropic gift in Australian history.

UWA Chancellor Dr Michael Chaney AO CitWA welcomed the Forrest gift saying, “We hope the Forrests’ philanthropic leadership will inspire others in our community to give to the University’s New Century Campaign to ensure we continue to make a difference in peoples’ lives locally and globally.”

Education is the only way to eliminate global poverty and raise the universal standard of living. This will ultimately allow all human beings the opportunity to live their lives with decency and dignity.

Andrew Forrest

UWA graduate and business leader Mr Forrest is passionate about the life-changing power of education.

The donation has created the Forrest Research Foundation, which provides scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships across all five WA universities, establishing Perth as an international hub of knowledge and innovation.

A creative living space for rising research stars, Forrest Hall, will also be developed. The space will attract the brightest minds to UWA from around the globe and foster exciting new collaborations and advancements in research.
